Poster #35 - Improving Principal Talent: A Case Study of Four Districts

Sat, April 6, 8:00 to 9:30am, Metro Toronto Convention Centre, Floor: 300 Level, Hall C

Abstract

Principals are a key lever to improving schools, yet many districts across the country do not have research-based best practices for how they prepare, selection, and recruit the most effective principals at scale. This mixed methods study reveals early results from a three-year initiative of four school districts across the country that are working to improve policies and practices to how they increase principal talent. Findings indicate that districts should demonstrate clear readiness indicators for this work, and that balancing multiple priorities can be a challenge unless the leadership team has a clear understanding of effective implementation.
