In order to effectively meet the needs of middle grade students, teachers must collaborate in order to plan effective instruction for students across classrooms and subjects. This collaboration is enriched when teachers participate, together, in ongoing professional learning. This study investigates the experiences of middle school teacher teams who participated in a multi-year, disciplinary literacy professional learning initiative. It reports on the ways in which teachers, working together across disciplines, developed powerful instructional strategies for teaching disciplinary literacy to their middle school students.
