Abstract

This paper focuses on one aspect of a PhD project: reading and language as embodied processes. I explain how one research participant, Carolina (pseudonym), continues becoming a bilingual-immigrant-racialized-woman, through reading Native Speaker in a book club. Using a feminist Deleuzian methodology, I blend different data to make connections drawing on Coloma (2008), Deleuze and Guattari (1987), and Sumara (1996). Through the analysis of one hot spot, I explain how Carolina continues becoming bilingual-immigrant-racialized-woman in ways that resist molar/static white settler colonial understandings of her subject positions and creates a more liveable life. I explain why this is relevant to education, as it is our duty as educators to provide access to these narratives which can help create more liveable lives.
