Sat, April 6, 12:20 to 1:50pm, Metro Toronto Convention Centre, Floor: 300 Level, Hall C

Abstract

The purpose of this mixed method study was to examine the factors that can decrease nursing students’ academic stress and test anxiety through relaxation techniques. The study investigated the relationships among the nursing students’ reports of their test anxiety, academic stress, and the use of relaxation techniques that decrease their stress and anxiety. Findings from pretest and posttest survey results indicate that after using relaxation techniques, students reported a statistically significant decrease in test anxiety and academic stress. They indicated that the use of relaxation technique sessions prior to their exams helped reduce their anxiety and stress in the classroom and in the clinical setting.
