Curricular Tools Beyond: Interrogating Racist Logics Within a Police Crisis Intervention Team Training's Instructional Arc

Sun, April 7, 11:50am to 1:20pm, Metro Toronto Convention Centre, Floor: 700 Level, Room 704

Abstract

This Educational Criticism of City’s Police Department (CPD) Crisis Intervention Team (CIT) Training describes applying educational tools to police training. It contains three objectives around the instructional arc (Uhrmacher, McConnell Moroye, & Flinders, 2017): first, to map curricular theories onto the design and operation of CIT Training; second, to capture police officers’ training experiences; and, third, to evaluate whether the training fulfilled its goals. I attended to the hidden curriculum, or the often-unseen values permeating institutions and reinforcing normative structures (Uhrmacher et al., 2017).
