Computer science (CS) and computational thinking (CT) learning has gained momentum in U.S. schools. These skills are foundational as they cut across disciplines, content, and grade levels. Recently, the Coding Opportunities and Development Act created a competitive program to allow high school students to replace a required mathematics, science, or foreign language class with computer coding. Such initiatives remain strong at the secondary level with less focus at the elementary level. Thus, this research investigated over 1000 elementary-aged students' pre- and post-test changes in CT skills from a 10-week coding program implemented in three fall semesters. Findings revealed that participants benefited from early access to computer science (CS) lessons including a statistical significance showing positive changes from pre- to post-test.
