Using State Reports, District Evaluations, and Individual Teacher Interviews to Better Understand Women Teachers' Experiences

Fri, April 5, 2:25 to 3:55pm, Metro Toronto Convention Centre, Floor: 800 Level, Hall F

Abstract

Many sources of data are used to evaluate schools and districts in order to determine how effectively students are being educated. These sources vary depending on what questions are being asked and by whom, for the state authorities may be utilizing different measures to gauge success than a university-based researcher interviewing teachers. The purposes of the instruments used change depending on the reasons behind their development. The conclusions gleaned from analyzing the data gathered from these sources may also look quite different from each other, even for the same school or district. This working paper provides a discussion on the methods of using layers of data sources in order to fully capture the experience of women teachers.
