Abstract

This study examines the effectiveness of The Leader in Me (LiM) program in Missouri schools using a quasi-experiment with propensity score matching. This study analyzes data from 136 schools in the state of Missouri that adopted the LiM program between 2009 and 2017. Using school-level demographic variables from the Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education, this study matched 270 of the non-Lim schools to the non-LiM schools to 135 of the LiM schools (2:1 ratio), with one LiM school unmatched. The preliminary results indicate no differences in matched LiM and non-LiM schools’ average achievement, attendance, and behavioral incidence rate. Results are inconsistent with prior research using qualitative methods (e.g., Andersen, 2011). The differences in findings and implications are discussed.
