Developing the Latinx Physician Pipeline an Examination of Admission Trends

Sat, April 6, 8:00 to 9:30am, Metro Toronto Convention Centre, Floor: 800 Level, Hall F

Abstract

The nation’s demographics are rapidly changing, however, the number of physicians from underrepresented backgrounds remains low (AAMC, 2016). The state of California only has 5% Latinx physicians to serve the increasing Latinx population of 38% (Coffman, J, Geyn, I, Fix, M, & Lee, P, 2017). Thus, it is important to continue to develop the pipeline of Latinx premed applicants and Latinx medical students and create an infrastructure to support Latinx premed students in institutions of higher education. This study explores the Latinx premed applicant admissions trends within the University of California system.
