Faculty Members' Workplace Satisfaction and Productivity in Saudi Arabia: An Explanatory Sequential Mixed-Methods Study

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to describe and explain Saudi faculty members’ perspectives of their satisfaction and productivity within their office environment. This study used an explanatory mixed-methods research design. For the quantitative phase, 234 Saudi faculty members completed a questionnaire measuring environmental satisfaction and productivity in different office types (i.e., private, shared-room, and open-plan). For the second qualitative phase, three Saudi faculty members answered interview questions related to their perceptions of their office environments. The quantitative results showed that faculty members in private offices reported higher levels of satisfaction and productivity than those in shared and open-plan offices. The qualitative analyses demonstrated that privacy was a key demand for faculty members in both private and open-plan offices.
