Abstract

This presentation reviews existing literature on domestic minor sex trafficking (DMST), uncovering gaps in research, particularly entry to DMST and its presence in schools. Studies included in this review investigated the nature and characteristics of DMST from the perspectives of healthcare, legal, and education fields. Included is an overview of human trafficking and DMST literature, followed by a rationale for using Cultural Historical Activity Theory (CHAT) as a framework. Recommendations for future DMST research are included: (1) studies of DMST should focus on students as the subjects of activity systems (2) future research should focus on tensions present in the student activity system, and (3) DMST studies should focus on the school activity system, which is neglected in extant research.
