Fragments of a Gesture: Exploring Curriculum Encounters Through a Minor Lens

Sun, April 7, 9:55 to 11:25am, Sheraton Centre Toronto Hotel, Floor: Mezzanine Level, Willow East

Abstract

This paper engages with video images that were recorded during a research project in a public school in Toronto, Canada. Drawing on Erin Manning’s (2016) critical engagement with aesthetics, I engage in a ‘minor practice’ that encourages a rethinking of the image as a fragment of a gesture that activates the intensive capacity of bodies to think. I will be working with video images as data/documentation. I will also be working with images as aesthetic texts that are composed of the more-than-human. In doing so, I critically engage with aesthetics and the ontological turn in curriculum studies.
