A Critical Race Theory Analysis: Counterstories of California English Learner Students

Abstract

In this study, I use information gathered from former EL students to understand their experiences with schooling. I focus on how their linguistic and social capitals, as revealed in their responses, helped them navigate their schooling. Thus, the main purpose of this study is to understand how the different assets that EL students possess could alter or provide a different narrative on the deficit-thinking surrounding EL students.
