Abstract

Little empirical research has been conducted to analyse and understand the impact of different learning spaces on student learning. Drawing on data from Australia and New Zealand, this paper provides empirical evidence of the impact of types of learning spaces that facilitate quality change in pedagogies that can improve student deep learning. Although the findings suggest that a learning environment which is considered traditional are associated with lower means of student deep learning, it also found that all types of learning spaces can be associated with students achieving deep(er) learning characteristics. The implications are that it is imperative that teaching and learning practices in these spaces commensurate to achieve the best possible learning outcomes for students.
