WITHDRAWN: Developing Japanese Student Teachers' Views and Strategies for Inclusion Through Workshop Experiences

Mon, April 8, 12:20 to 1:50pm, Metro Toronto Convention Centre, Floor: 700 Level, Room 715B

Abstract

This case study uses the Japanese student teachers’ workshop feedback narratives to explore what future teachers find about their learning of inclusive education through workshop participation. The purpose of the study is to understand how Japanese student teachers can transform their views and attitudes toward inclusion through their experience of active learning strategies. I focus on two workshops that were planned based on “questioning the status quo”. Narrative data is analyzed with extra attention to the choice of words. Findings reveal that student teachers could challenge themselves with new strategies for inclusion through collaboration. Japanese teacher educators also need to question their traditional teacher-centered value at a university level.
