Abstract

This community based project aimed for young co-researchers to explore young people’s knowledge of, and values and attitudes towards, their local critically endangered ecological community of the Big Scrub Rainforest. Twelve young co-researchers from primary and early secondary school in Australia worked collaboratively in this child participatory action research/ a/r/tographic project with 120 fellow students, local Environmental Educators, and university researchers. The young people taking part in the project developed positive attitudes towards, and an interconnection with, their local ecosystem. The co-researchers widely disseminated their ecological knowledge, values, experiences and research findings relating to the Big Scrub Rainforest ecological community. The project resulted in the establishment of a framework for place and community based child participatory action/ A/r/tographic research.
