The aim of the present work was to examine possible influencing factors for the acceptance of innovations designed for schools in challenging circumstances. Therefore, a program for schools in challenging circumstances in Berlin was investigated. Within the so-called “Bonus Program”, participating schools receive additional funds they can to a great extent manage autonomously in order to address specific problems at the schools. For the purpose of this study, we drew data from 191 principals from schools participating in the Bonus Program, asking about their assessment of concepts and aspects of the Program as well as individual and school-related aspects. We found that especially variables concerning the innovation, such as the perceived comprehensibility and usefulness, significantly explained variance in the acceptance.
