Abstract

This study investigates how Ontario elementary school principals implement in-school teams (ISTs) that are holistic. The IST is a problem-solving approach implemented to support students, especially those identified as experiencing difficulties within schools. This presentation highlights two case studies from two different schools, where these leaders use the IST as a continuum of care for the whole child. The analysis pulls from semi-structured interviews with principals to examine how valuable caring adults and relationships are in elementary schools to support student success. Holistic pedagogy, as a theoretical lens, is used to understand the importance of care in schools.
