The Influence of an Early Intensive Field Experience on Participants' Perceptions of STEM Teaching

Abstract

STEM teachers are in high demand nationwide, however, there is also a high turnover rate in STEM teaching. Through an early intensive field experience, this research examined participants perceptions of STEM teaching to determine it’s influence on their desire to pursue STEM teaching. The results of this research indicate the early intensive field experience strengthened the participants confidence in choosing or not choosing STEM teaching as a career and allowed the participants to develop accurate perceptions of what STEM teaching actually is like.
