In education, the adoption of new technology and the training of teachers to use it has gained much momentum. Unfortunately, the work of finding and then repurposing the technology tools that exist to best meet the needs of students (particularly urban youth) has not garnered as much attention We argue that in order to truly understand the ways that technology can and should be used within classrooms, educators must look at how it is used within urban youth culture, and more specifically within hip-hop.
