Poster #16 - Implementing and Mobilizing the Middle Years Development Instrument to Improve Equity and Educational Opportunities

Sun, April 7, 11:50am to 1:20pm, Metro Toronto Convention Centre, Floor: 300 Level, Hall C

Abstract

Several Ontario Ministry of Education mandates require school boards to collect school climate data in order to monitor how students are experiencing life inside and outside of school. We are a team of researchers working in a school board who have implemented the Middle Years Development Instrument (MDI) as a tool for collecting elementary school (grades 4-8) climate data to meet Ministry requirements and school board strategic directions. Using a case study perspective, we explain our rationale for choosing and implementing the MDI, we demonstrate our data collection process and we share our data knowledge mobilization strategy which will support school board leaders and school administrators in making decisions that will improve education equality and opportunities.
