School-Based Perspectives on Data Practices and Evidence Use in a Long-Standing Research-Practice Partnership

Sat, April 6, 8:00 to 9:30am, Metro Toronto Convention Centre, Floor: 200 Level, Room 201D

Abstract

This multi-site case study enhances our understanding of how school-based professionals collaborate to share information and use evidence to shape practice within a long-standing Research-Practice Partnership (RPP). [ABCD] is an integrated student support approach aimed at increasing the achievement and thriving of all students. Interviews were conducted with ABCD coordinators, teachers and principals in three schools within one urban-suburban district. Drawing on grounded theory methods, initial findings suggest internal factors, such as beliefs about student support, as well as external factors, such as school context, play a role in how teachers, principals and coordinators use data in their practice. This study provides insights into how school-based professionals utilize research activities to shape their own and school-wide practices around data use.
