Principal Perceptions of Superintendents: Using Motivating Language and Antecedents as a Predictor of Outcomes

Tue, April 9, 10:25 to 11:55am, Metro Toronto Convention Centre, Floor: 800 Level, Hall F

Abstract

Motivating Language Theory (MLT) centers on educational administrator-to-employee talk as a strategic driver of individual employee and educational organization outcomes. In this study, the authors examine if the antecedents of Motivating Language and Motivating Language were predictors of (1) Leader Effectiveness, (2) Communication Satisfaction, (3) Communication Competence, and (4) Job Satisfaction. In the fall of 2017, principals from 47 districts in Wyoming received a survey invitation via email and 113 responded to the survey. Each predictor variable was statistically correlated with dependent variables. Each hierarchical multiple regression revealed a statistically significant model. The results are provided along with a discussion based on the extant literature. The findings are significant for scholars and practitioners because of its focus on the superintendency.
