This paper describes a qualitative research study that explores the strategic leadership of educational leaders who promote social justice. Given the risks in resistant organizations, educational leaders need to be strategic about the ways in which they pursue social justice. Interviews with 25 school leaders reveal the ways in which they strategically pursue their social justice agendas within their own organizations. In particular, it describes their strategic deliberations, their quest to understand the organizations in which they work, the manner in which they position themselves, the ways in which they establish relationships and their low key approaches.
