N = 43 students, enrolled in a teacher training program at a German university, were randomly assigned to one of two versions of a staged-video-based training program on classroom management (CM) knowledge and skills. One version of the training program focused on general CM, based on Kounin (1970) and others, whereas the other version of the training program focused on nonverbal CM, based on Rosenbusch (2004) and qualitative studies on nonverbal CM. Results reveal that the nonverbal CM training outperformed the general CM training not only on nonverbal CM knowledge but on general CM knowledge as well, indicating the specific relevance of nonverbal aspects of CM in teacher education and training.
