Analysis of Bloom's Taxonomy in Education and Engineering Education: Discourse Analysis Concept Mapping

Abstract

This study was designed to map the ways that Bloom’s taxonomy, and concepts associated with Bloom’s taxonomy (understand, apply, analyze, evaluate create, orders of critical thinking, knowledge hierarchy) were being used across published scholarship in the fields of Education and Engineering Education. Bloom’s taxonomy is a widely used construct to explain different levels of learning and analysis, and is often used by instructors in order to gauge the levels of critical thinking shown in learning contexts. The authors used Leximancer, which is a textual-data mining and discourse analysis software program, to map the ways these Bloom’s-associated concepts were used in both Engineering and Education journals.
