Numerous competence models report the key position of motivational dimensions and emphasize its importance for the teacher profession. Against the backdrop of expectancy-value-theory and the fit-choice model, this study aims to predict the domain-specific self-efficacy beliefs of preservice teachers by means of their motivation profiles From this point of view, it leads to a discussion to what extent the initial positions are more or less favorable for their studies With the sample of 405 Austrian preservice teachers, a latent class analysis was applied and four classes were identified. The results indicate that students with a more realistic and balanced motivational profile show higher levels of efficacy.
