Abstract

This paper reviews findings from a study with elementary school teachers in Rio de Janeiro from two different aspects: 1. It shows the development of indigenous scholar education in the state of Rio de Janeiro from case study conducted at the Indigenous Public School Guarani Karai Kuery Renda, which serves the population Guarani Mbya in the municipalities of Angra dos Reis and Paraty (RJ). 2. It discusses the representations and practices of non-indigenous teachers in elementary schools on teaching about indigenous issues, after the Law n. 11465/2008. For this analysis, the methodology focused on interviews, observation in schools and questionnaires sent to 90 teachers at the province of Rio de Janeiro.
