Sun, April 7, 9:55 to 11:25am, Sheraton Centre Toronto Hotel, Floor: Lower Concourse, Osgoode Ballroom

Abstract

This study introduces an after-school programming club at a middle school. The primary purpose of the club was to let students learn computational thinking by developing games, quizzes, and applications using Scratch. By analyzing students’ Scratch projects, this study revealed students computational thinking concepts. The results suggested that students successfully mastered objectives of each week in general. However, instructional guidance was necessary for the decomposition of problems and evaluation of program efficiency. Instructional strategies for CS education were discussed.
