Poster #2 - Do Nondegree Work Credentials Pay Off?

Abstract

Using results from the 2016 NHES Adult Training and Education Survey, this study examines how having nondegree work credentials is associated with labor force outcomes. We find that having a license is associated with greater odds of being employed; in addition, having a certification, a license, or having completed a work experience program is generally associated with increased risks of being in the higher earnings categories. This study also finds that despite whether the respondents have a college degree or not, having a license has a consistently positive association with being employed and being in a higher earnings category. These results corroborate previous research on nondegree credentials and have implications for efforts to improve equitable access to adult learning.
