With surveys, often an estimate of a construct’s “true” score (i.e., an individual’s placement on a latent construct) is desired. What is not well known is how the inclusion of covariates may affect a score on a latent variable. The purpose of this study is to compare different methods for calculating scores from a survey to determine the effect that covariates have on representations of a latent construct.
