This study examined how disciplinary research, professional practice and policy shape professional education (PE) curricula in teaching and social work. Based on qualitative methods with 56 professional educators, findings show that the curricula were grounded in dynamics between the organization of research in the discipline and the organization of practice at the workplace. The first determined the domains of knowledge that were available for PE at the university, the second entailed workplace professional tasks, calling for adequate domains of knowledge in PE. The representation of these domains in the curriculum depended on interrelations between the two forms of organization in each profession. We offer a new construct of 'Organizational Coherence' in PE, underscoring institutional alignment between university and workplace bodies.
