Fri, April 5, 12:00 to 1:30pm, Metro Toronto Convention Centre, Floor: 800 Level, Hall G

Abstract

The proposed study identifies characteristics of teachers who entered teaching through alternative route to certification (AC) programs compared to teachers entering through traditional certification (TC) programs and examines the distinguishing indicators that may lead teachers to stay or leave their intial school. Second, this study will examine whether AC teachers are more likely than TC teachers to stay or leave their current schools. Third, this study will examine various personal, professional, and organizational factors that contribute to teachers’ career decisions about whether to remain in their current schools. Finally, this study will investigate whether these indicators vary by teachers’ certification types.
