Using Digital Rhetoric to Make a Difference: Assessment of an Urban Youth's Digital Composition

Abstract

This presentation will focus on assessing an urban middle schooler’s digital composition within the Eyman framework in order to demonstrate how the student used elements of digital rhetoric such as invention, arrangement, style, delivery, and memory. The researchers hope to demonstrate that the digital rhetoric framework is an asset-based approach to evaluating digital literacy products because it honors and recognizes student agency and intention. In this presentation, researchers and practitioners can see a sample of how an asset-based digital rhetoric framework highlighted the purposeful, agentic visual and textual movements of an urban youth who was highly motivated to complete a digital research project on the issue of gun violence in his community.
