The Relationship Between Education Students' Political Perspective and Their Attitudes Toward Education Restrictions of Immigrants

Abstract

This paper is based on a quantitative study of first and second-year education students at a large state university in the American Southeast. It specifically examines their attitudes towards educational restrictions and their ideological beliefs, partisan affiliation, and choice of presidential candidate in the 2016 election. The results reveal a strong relationship between all three areas and attitudes towards immigrant students. The authors discuss the implications that arise from this study and the importance of teachers' attitudes towards students, particularly marginalized immigrant populations.
