Politics and Political Discourses in the Classroom: From Rehearsal to Performance

Abstract

Although some higher education research has begun to provide insights to factors that influence college students’ political identity development (e.g., the role of student affairs professionals, campus climate, and institutional missions), very little of this research examines students situated within fine and performing arts programs. Of particular interest is political identity development and the representation of women’s voices in political processes, which this chapter explores through college dance curricula, a discipline that overwhelmingly serve women students.
