Why Fiction? A Systematic Literature Review of Fiction Writing Pedagogy in Secondary School Curricula

Sat, April 6, 12:20 to 1:50pm, Sheraton Centre Toronto Hotel, Floor: Lower Concourse, Grand Centre

Abstract

This systematic literature review examines educational articles, both practitioner-centered and research-based, in professional and research journals published within the last twenty years that examine the teaching and learning of fiction writing and analyzes the emergent patterns and themes resulting from the review of this corpus. It emphasizes the need for further data-driven research on fiction writing pedagogy in secondary classrooms and OST spaces, with an emphasis on exploring the distinctive features and learning outcomes of middle- and high-school fiction writing.
