Abstract

This qualitative study focuses on how Black women faculty experience their race/ethnicity and gender in the context of their work and how they give language to their embodied experiences. Historically, much of the literature on women faculty have not disaggregated Black women faculty in their reports or they were not included at all. The preliminary findings from this study suggest Black faculty women prioritize and often feel hyper-aware of their embodied experiences in the context of their role. In addition, they are propelled and motivated by a larger community of students, peers, neighbors and family within and outside of their institutions and they are committed to adopting intentional self-care practices to sustain themselves in their work.
