Integrating Arts and Evaluation: Measuring Encounters

Abstract

This paper explores how past research about the arts, assessment, and evaluation have prepared us for new ways of creating, appreciating, and joining together communities to engage in artful practices as contemplative processes for understanding. Two scholars, both located in Education, one in assessment and evaluation, the other in arts education and curriculum, encounter each other through collaging, as a way to explore pedagogical opportunity, meaning-making, measurement, and appreciation. Collaging together brings the authors into a contemplative conversation about assessment and evaluation, appreciation for each other’s perspectives, and learning what matters, what is evoked and what remains unresolved, when they seek to explore assessment and evaluation through art-making.
