A Lens on Adults' Literacies: Using Photovoice as Multimodal Curriculum and Method for Community Change

Mon, April 8, 12:20 to 1:50pm, Sheraton Centre Toronto Hotel, Floor: Mezzanine Level, Cedar

Abstract

“The oppressed must be their own example in the struggle for their redemption” (Freire, 1970, p. 54). However, this is only possible when voices, like adult literacy ABE learners, are heard from directly. By using adult learners’ own words and seeing through their lens, using Photovoice method, this research ethically magnifies adults’ literacy learning for empowerment, and, in turn, the understandings of researchers, practitioners, and policy makers.
