Abstract

The Iowa Mathematics Proficiency Project (iMaP2) is a professional development designed to help teachers engage students in thinking critically about mathematics through the Reasoning and Modeling (RM) approach. In this research, we attempted to examine the effects of the iMaP2 on students’ mathematics achievement measured by Iowa Assessment after one year of teacher participation. We applied the multivariate approach to the repeated measure ANOVA to analyze the data of 87 students: 29 students, taught by the teachers in the iMaP2 at grade 5, as a treatment group and other 58 students as a reference group. The finding of this study showed that students with the iMaP2 teachers had higher growth in mathematics achievement than their peers in the reference group.
