In this qualitative leadership study, the growth and professional learning of the aspiring administrator and their competence to serve in the role as first year assistant principals is the focus. The development and preparation to competently lead in the field is part of the learner stance embraced by university faculty, school district, and partners reflected on the authentic and complex learning completed in a 15th month job-embedded principal preparation residency program. This study reflected on a model for the job-embedded principal preparation residency program where a strong concentration on equity, social justice and instructional leadership for the assistant principal role.
