Abstract

Given the complex associations between parental education, employment, and poverty, as well as the differential impacts that the timing and stability of poverty may have, it is important to look at these factors in relation to one another as well as in relation to outcomes for students. This paper extends findings from prior research by using data from the High School Longitudinal Study of 2009 (HSLS:09) to describe changes in students’ poverty status over time and examine how those changes in poverty status relate to later postsecondary education outcomes.
