The study evaluated the success of redesigning a traditional lecture-format Calculus for Life and Management Sciences course into a flipped and blended (hybrid) structure. The primary goals were to address low student engagement; increase DFW rates; and modify an inconsistent and inefficient course structure. Results indicated that the restructured course allowed students more time to engage with materials outside of the classroom, without significantly increasing course time commitments. Students in the redesigned sections reported significantly higher levels of in-class readiness; higher comfort with math; and higher enjoyment learning how math fits into their major compared to those in the traditional course. Further, analyses revealed a significant difference in final course grade distributions and DFW rates between redesigned and traditional sections.
