Abstract

This presentation focuses on the development of a primer to explore, within a culturally diverse and politically sensitive Pacific region context, the aims and uses of research, the differences between data and evidence and how evidence can be used to build arguments, how practitioners can appraise links between evidence and claims, and common biases and fallacies that practitioners should avoid in interpreting data, as well as to examine relevant ethical considerations and consider issues related to communicating and using research. The primer was developed in consultation with potential Pacific users on the extent to which it has the potential to reach its stated goals and whether the Pacific examples were appropriately framed and/or meaningful exemplars from which to learn.
