Given the diversity in perspectives, understanding the relationship of agency to student literacy learning has been elusive. The research outlined in this proposal aims to address this need. The goal of this proposal is to share results from the development of a student agency survey that focuses on agency during literacy instruction, developed over an 18 month period with elementary students in grades 1st through 5th. We report findings on the relationship of agency to student literacy outcomes.
