Affective skills are on track to become as important as cognitive achievement measures toward assessing outcomes and teacher instructional consequence. The primary objective of this paper is to share the development of an instrument to assess pre-service teachers’ non-cognitive skills that relate to effective teaching. The paper provides an overview of the literature, details the process for instrument development and statistical and psychometric properties, shares the measure, and goes on to discuss plans and progress for ongoing construct validation, and a longitudinal study of the relationship among the measured non-cognitive skills and effective teaching.
