Collaborative Self-Study by Teacher Educators of Color: Resistance Narratives in Times of Truth and Reconciliation

Abstract

In a time of Truth and Reconciliation, four women of colour immigrant-settlers, all involved in teacher education in British Columbia, share their experiences through a collaborative self-study. These stories of survival and resilience serve to model the reflexive work with which these authors engage, to stand alongside white colleagues and colleagues of colour, and be regarded as second to - and in solidarity with - Indigenous Peoples. The authors delve into ‘sacred stories’ of their lived experiences through conversation, reflections and personal anecdotes. The collective resistance narratives of the authors serve to assert meaningful and actionable ways forward and contribute knowledge to transform teacher education programs to best serve the learning of all - and especially - Indigenous students.
