Sun, April 7, 3:40 to 5:10pm, Metro Toronto Convention Centre, Floor: 800 Level, Hall G

Abstract

This study reviews the literature on the obstacles faced by rural school principals and the strategies used to overcome them. The obstacles and strategies are then aligned with the Professional Standards for Educational Leaders to inform the design of principal preparation programs. Sources of evidence for this study include published research from journals in the field of educational leadership and rural education for the years 2006 - 2018. Studies were limited to those including rural education in the United States. The results of this study inform university professors and others charged with the design of principal preparation programs based on the Professional Standards for Educational Leaders.
