Rural McNair Students' Preparedness for Graduate School Matriculation: A Quantitative Analysis of Self-Efficacy

Fri, April 5, 2:25 to 3:55pm, Metro Toronto Convention Centre, Floor: 800 Level, Hall F

Abstract

Federal funding to TRIO programs continues to be uncertain especially to programs that have limited evidence of effectiveness in improving student outcomes. The primary goal of this quantitative analysis is to understand the relationships between McNair students’ geographic origins and the impact of socialization experiences on students’ self-efficacy in preparing for graduate school. Results show that 80% of students from Urbanized Areas matriculated to graduate school, while only 61% of students from rural communities went on to enroll in graduate school (Table 2). ANOVA analysis of pre and post survey results on items associated with the self-efficacy affects socialization to graduate school matriculation indicate significance on some items based on geographic origin.
